Squeeze more songs on your iPod/iPhone for free

Do you want to squeeze more music on your iPod or iPhone for free? Well Apple’s latest update to iTunes lets you do just that. Apple added a feature to reduce the size of the music files by converting the bit rate to 128 kbps. For most people, the reduced quality won’t be noticable

To take advantage of the new feature:

1. Update to iTunes 9.1 (released today, March 30th).
2. When you plug in your iPod/iPhone, check “Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC.”
3. Click the Sync button.

The sync will take longer than usual since the computer will need to first convert the songs. On my iPhone, I now have about twice as many songs!
